Workshop Overview

This workshop will provide water resources engineers and municipal reviewers with practical guidance on advanced design approaches and emerging best practices. Current developments in Iowa stormwater regulations, ISWMM application updates, and available funding programs for stormwater projects.

Hydrologic Modeling Best Practices
Advanced modeling approaches including continuous simulation methods, design storm selection strategies, and techniques for evaluating shorter duration and more intense storm events.

Site Design & Practice Sizing
Detailed methods for sizing stormwater practices, understanding how upstream infiltration practices influence downstream sizing requirements, and applying ISWMM guidance to account for the runoff reduction benefits of approaches like soil quality restoration when sizing detention ponds and basins.

Stormwater Master Planning
Strategic approaches to watershed-scale planning and developing comprehensive stormwater management programs at the community level.

Ethics & Resilient Design
