Iowa Certification for Inspection and Maintenance of Stormwater Practices (ICIMSP) Webinar

About This Training
This virtual training equips professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively inspect and maintain stormwater best management practices (BMPs) across Iowa. The program combines instruction with virtual inspection activities using drone footage, including inspections of retention ponds and group problem-solving discussions.

Earn 6.25 Professional Development Hours (PDHs).

Who Should Attend
This certification is designed for municipal staff, public works and parks personnel, consultants, and anyone responsible for inspecting or maintaining stormwater infrastructure.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common stormwater BMP types and understand their functions and performance factors
  • Conduct thorough inspections using standardized checklists and rating systems
  • Recognize key indicators of BMP failure or maintenance needs
  • Document inspection findings accurately and prioritize maintenance actions
  • Apply appropriate maintenance strategies for different BMP types and seasonal conditions
  • Identify native and invasive plant species and understand vegetation management requirements
  • Develop maintenance recommendations based on inspection observations

Certification
Following the training, attendees complete an online assessment on their own time. A passing score is required to receive ICIMSP certification.

Loulou Dickey, Ph.D. | Executive Director, ISWEP
Loulou holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and serves as ISWEP’s Executive Director, translating research into stormwater management resources for Iowa communities.

Steve Cooper | Stormwater Coordinator, City of Marion
Steve brings more than 30 years of experience in public works, engineering, and community development. His specializations include water resources management, stormwater utilities, infrastructure and asset management, regulatory compliance, and construction inspection.
