Construction Site Winter BMP Strategies: Managing Frozen and Snow-Covered Conditions

January 27 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Date: January 27, 2026
Time: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm

Winter construction presents unique challenges for erosion and sediment control. Frozen ground, snow cover, and spring thaw conditions require different management approaches than traditional warm-weather BMPs.

Join nationally recognized expert Dwayne Stenlund for this practical training on maintaining construction site compliance during winter months. With 30 years of experience training professionals across the nation, Dwayne specializes in cost-effective construction site runoff control practices that actually work in challenging conditions.

This webinar covers:

  • Erosion control methods for frozen and snow-covered soil (straw/hay mulch, rolled erosion control blankets, weighted tarps)
  • Sediment control strategies that work in cold conditions (filter socks, slash berms, sediment filter strips, sand berm ridges, soil berms)
  • Preparing your site for spring runoff and thaw conditions
  • Q&A session to address your most challenging winter scenarios

Who should attend: City and county staff, contractors, home builders, and developer staff involved in construction site runoff control.

Certificates of attendance are provided for professional development hours (PDHs).

We encourage you to submit specific questions or site challenges to psauer@iowastormwater.org before the webinar so content can be tailored to address challenges you’re facing.

Registration is FREE for ISWEP’s city and county members. Professional members receive a 20% discount. Be sure to enter your promo code when registering.
