Established in 2004 as the first program of its kind in Iowa, the ICCSPPI program provides essential certification for professionals who conduct construction site inspections and implement erosion control measures. This comprehensive training prepares construction site inspectors, erosion and sediment control installers, municipal stormwater staff, environmental consultants, and contractors to effectively ensure compliance with Iowa’s stormwater regulations and General Permit No. 2 requirements.

Learning objectives
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply knowledge of Iowa’s stormwater regulatory requirements to ensure construction site compliance
- Accurately interpret and implement Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs)
- Properly install and inspect erosion and sediment control best management practices
- Evaluate stormwater BMP installations, identify deficiencies, and communicate needed corrections
- Implement effective good housekeeping practices that prevent stormwater pollution at construction sites
Certification process
- Complete the full ICCSPPI training (online, in-person, or virtual)
- Pass the certification exam
- Sign the ICCSPPI Code of Ethics
Upon successful completion, your certification is valid for three years and includes listing in our statewide database of certified professionals. Recertification training is required to maintain your credentials.
