Letting Nature Lead:
An Ecosystem Approach to Stormwater Management

IStorm 2027 call for lightning talk abstracts

IStorm 2027 focuses on protecting natural systems and the stormwater work they already do. That means stream buffers, floodplains, urban forests, native plantings, and land use decisions that leave room for water, as well as the practices and partnerships that support them. Lightning talks should connect to this theme. We want to hear about projects, studies, and partnerships that show what it looks like to work with natural systems.

Format

Lightning talks are 10 minutes: 8 minutes of presentation and 2 minutes for questions. Six talks will be selected, three on each day. They’re a good fit for a single project, a study result, a new partnership, or a lesson learned that doesn’t need a full session.

For exhibitors, a lightning talk is a good way to get attendees interested in visiting your booth or following up after the conference. Talks should be educational, not sales pitches, but there’s plenty of room to show your work.

What we’re looking for

  • Projects, case studies, or research that fit the theme
  • Partnerships between cities, agencies, nonprofits, or private firms
  • Early-stage or in-progress work with something useful to share
  • Topics relevant to urban stormwater in Iowa

If your topic was presented at the Iowa Water Conference, tell us how the IStorm version will be different.

Submission guidelines

Abstracts should be 300 words or less and include your talk title, name, organization, and contact information.

Submit by November 13th to iswepadmin@iowastormwater.org
