ISWEP has offered training for construction site inspectors for several years now. This effort has expanded to meet the demands of construction site inspectors in this ever-changing field and now culminates in the first ever certification program in Iowa in partnership with Polk Soil and Water Conservation, Nilles Associates, Inc.,  and Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.  The Iowa Certified Construction Site Pollution Prevention Inspector (ICCSPPI) program offers an affordable, time efficient, certification opportunity for construction site inspectors who are responsible for construction site or MS-4 inspections and MS-4 inspections.  The program is developed especially for Iowa inspectors based on Iowa design guidelines and regulatory requirements.
The following short steps are needed to become an ICCSPPI:
- Attend a full day ICCSPPI training event.
- Pass a straight-forward exam (takes 30 minutes or less to complete the exam).
- Sign a Code of Ethics Agreement.
- Certificate recognizing you as an ICCSPPI will be issued to those that fulfill the above requirements (good for 3 years).
- Every 3 years attend a refresher course that will provide technology and regulatory updates.
Topics covered during the training event include: regulatory requirements; erosion, sediment and velocity control; post construction stormwater management practices for water quality and quantity management; SWPPP essentials; and inspector requirements. A practice inspection is conducted during class. Sample inspection forms are provided to attendees.
Training events will be held throughout the state or arrangements can be made to connect to a webcast of the training program. Contact Pat Sauer at
